Buster Gets Out!

I'm excited to announce I've illustrated a children's book called Buster Gets Out! now for sale in my Etsy store and on the BookPatch online bookstore. Lucienne Stec and Thomas L. Stec, my husband's parents, wrote the story and it was a fun collaboration!

"Violet and her cat Buster are the best of friends. But one Fall day when Buster escapes into the yard, Violet must search high and low to find him!" Here are a few of the illustrations from the book:

I see Shammy over and over in these spreads! So much to love here, but my favs are definitely the evening barbecue scene (although she is not quite in a fuschia pantsuit, I am led to believe she MUST have one in her closet, along with a pair of gold loafers and some salty observations about lady problems), and the one of Buster leaping over the wrought iron table and chairs.

Sigh.

She would never *barbeque* in a fuschia pantsuit! A fuschia jumpsuit, maybe. Belted, of course. I suspect she also has a strong collection of themed lapel pins for her professional life.

You see what the PNW has done to me - I now say bbq when I mean grilling. And I now prefer the rainy season to summer. Perhaps this picture book needs a sequel that explores the personal and professional life of Violet's grandmother.

Haha, I wasn't trying to make fun of you saying bbq! Is that not a Southern thing to say? The Southerner Than Thou requirements I remember from certain Charlestonians seem so funny now that I'm in Germany, where they're like "oh yes, the South! Deserts, Kim Kardashian, basketball, Vegas. I know it well, in fact I've been to Ohio."

I think that is also an excellent idea for the sequel.
